Mrs Trombley's Kindergarten

Kindergarten in Room 14 is a happy and fun learning place. We explore, discover, and practice becoming lifelong learners within the Porters Point School community. We learn that each of us has strengths that make us unique as individuals and, when shared, these strengths contribute to the value of our classroom community. We learn that each of us also has needs, so we learn to take care of each other so that we can all "Be Ready To Learn."

About Me

Mrs Trombley
My name is Diane Trombley and I teach Kindergarten. I have a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from the University of Vermont. I have been teaching in Colchester for 17 years. First, as a Reading Tutor, and next as a Fourth Grade teacher at Malletts Bay School. For the last 6 years I have been lucky enough to teach my favorite grade, Kindergarten! So, you see, I am a committed educator and a lifelong learner. I have two grown children, Shannon and Ryan, one grandson, Kalem, and another grandchild on the way. In my free time I enjoy spending time in, near, or on beautiful Lake Champlain. I love to read, too.

I Practice The Responsive Classroom Approach

Guiding Principles

The social curriculum is as important as the academic curriculum.

How chldren learn is as important as what they learn: process and content go hand in hand.

The greatest cognitive growth occurs through social interaction.

There is a specific set of social skills that children need to learn and practice in order to be successful academically and socially: cooperation, assertion, responsibility, empathy, and self control (CARES).

Knowing the children we teach - individually, culturally, and developmentally - is as imporant as knowing the content we teach.

Knowing the families of the children we teach is as important as knowing the children we teach.

How we, the adults at school, work together is as important as our individual competence: lasting change begins with the adult community.
